The Disney Contemporary Resort is a modern
marvel nestled on the beaches of the lovely Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake. The futuristic monorail glides right through the lobby of the concrete A frame structure.
As one of the Disney World deluxe resorts, the hotel has a fantastic location right next door to the Magic Kingdom. The monorail affords easy access to other Disney hotels
and Epcot Center. Dining and amenities are great at the Contemporary Resort.

About the Contemporary Resort
The Disney Contemporary Resort opened on October 1, 1971 as one of the two original hotels at Walt Disney World. The A frame design, huge atrium lobby and views of the monorail zooming through the lobby lend the hotel a modern feel. On the fourth level of the 14 story atrium is the Grand Canyon Concourse with the monorail flying through the center on an elevated platform. There you will find shops and restaurants. The atrium can be loud and noisy, but the rooms are well soundproofed.
Constructed of concrete, steel and glass, the resort appears contemporary, hence the name, and a bit 70'ish. The Contemporary Resort lacks the warmth of most of the other Disney properties. The resort also has a slightly incongruent Southwestern theme in a large mosaic mural in the atrium lobby. However, the location and amenities are fantastic.
The Disney Contemporary Resort has arguably the best location of any resort on Walk Disney World property. The hotel is a ten minute walk to the Magic Kingdom. The hotel offers superb views of the Magic Kingdom fireworks and also the nightly Electrical Water Pageant Parade on the water.
Monorail access makes the Contemporary super convenient, especially for those traveling with little kids who want monorail access to the Magic Kingdom. The monorail provides service to the Magic Kingdom, Grand Floridian Resort, Polynesian Resort and the Ticket and Transportation Center. Transfer at the Ticket and Transportation Center for the monorail to Epcot Center. A boat provides transportation to Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness Campground. Buses serve other areas.

Restaurants
The Contemporary Resort offers the following restaurants:
- California Grill is the premier signature dining establishment at the Contemporary was recently remodeled with a new look and a new menu. The restaurant still features an open kitchen and panoramic view of Walt Disney World
- Chef Mickey’s is widely considered the best character
breakfast buffet at the Disney resorts. It’s huge and chaotic and offers views
of the monorail. It’s great. Also hosts a dinner buffet
- Contempo Café offers quick service dining
- The Wave is a sit down restaurant offering casual American food

Recreation & Amenities
There are two pools onsite on a lovely location on the shores of Bay Lake. The main pool is free form with a slide and was renovated in 2009 and added a child water play area at that time. There are also two whirlpools and a playground. The second pool is near the main pool and is round, shallow on the outside and deeper in the middle.The Sand Bar pool bar serves grilled food and drinks.
Nice cabanas can be rented for a full day of half day and include a
flat screen television, complimentary drinks, a fruit basket, iPod docking station and a mini fridge. Massages and private dining can also be reserved. Sounds great to me!
The Bay Lake Tower also has a neat Bay Cove pool which can only be used by guests of the Bay Lake Tower.
There is a white sand beach, but you are not allowed to swim in the water.
